New!

GLADIATRIX

Dark Sci-Fi Romance
By Linda Mooney
Word Count: 53.2K
$3.99 e

Captain Rylee Crockett, a member of the Galactic Force, is well-respected among her peers, and damn good at her job. Despite the hurdles of being a female captain, she has a loyal crew who see her as strict but fair, and with the newest additions, her crew makes her the best ship in the fleet.

She’s especially curious about the newest expert on board. Dr. Beck Graham, a xenobiologist who specializes in alien species, specifically the Purej, who the Galactic Forces have been fighting for some time now. When Rylee’s ship is ordered to provide backup for a warship in the middle of a battle with their alien enemy, a mistranslated communique is intercepted, and Beck helps her decipher its true meaning. She fears they’re being set up for an ambush, along with everyone else ordered to assist.

What was thought to be proposed peace talks with the Purej is not at all the situation they find themselves involved in. Rylee’s ship is overtaken, and she awakens alone on an unrecognizable planet, and is soon taken to an arena where it is kill or be killed. Every confrontation becomes a fight to the death, gladiator style—against alien creatures, or other Galactic Force members—purely for their enemies’ entertainment.

If Rylee lives through this, she vows to get her revenge for the devastating number of crewmen she’s lost. And for the man who had given her a glimmer of hope when it came to being loved.

Warning! Contains ancient weaponry, oxygen masks, hostage taking, bad translations, revenge, a top-of-the-line spaceship, a demotion, and two people refusing to give up hope, until they're forced to take each other's lives.

New! MINE UNTIL MIDNIGHT, a Sci-fi Steampunk Western Romance

New!

MINE UNTIL MIDNIGHT
Sci-Fi, Steampunk, Western Romance
Word Count: 39.9K
$2.99 e
(and coming soon to print!)

He gambled and won something more valuable than money. He won love.

It started off as a little R&R on a backwater planet. All Ruce Haulk wanted was a place where he could breathe some fresh air, have a stiff drink, and perhaps while away a few hours at a game of chance. He should have known better. Before he's aware, he's embroiled in the middle of a flesh-peddling scheme, and the woman he "wins" is someone he never expected to find.

The moment Remi Clysonne saw the stranger take on Yarnell and his men single-handedly, she knew he was her only chance at escaping. She doesn't blame him when he doubts her claim that she's there to bring Yarnell to justice. What's more, she suspects there may be another reason why he's reluctant to offer aid.

What should have been a brief layover quickly becomes an all-out struggle for survival as Haulk and Remi battle their way out of an increasingly tangled mess. But the secrets they're keeping from each other may tear them apart before they manage to get away from this world and to safety.

Warning! Contains a clothes swap, levitating locomotives, watery soup, a pretty silver star, thousand-degree heat, attack dirigibles, and two people totally unprepared for whatever the future might hold for them.

Six on Sunday - NEVERWYLDE

Six paragraphs from my brand new series, NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Book 1

1.     In answer, another huge sheet of metal fell away, landing with a loud thud and a cloud of dust. Coughing, Kyber tried lifting his legs, when pain jabbed him in the hip. Reaching down, he discovered he’d been pierced with a piece of the metal. From the pattern on it, it appeared to be from the life pod. Jiggling it slightly, he hoped it hadn’t penetrated too far. He took the chance and slowly pulled it out. Four inches. It had gone in four inches. And now it’s bleeding like a gakking rammit. Worse, because of the wound’s location, he couldn’t tie anything around it to stop the slow but steady stream of blood streaking down his leg. Kyber peered closer at the slit, pressing one talon against the cut. The pain wasn’t intense, which was good. It meant the damage was minimal. And because it was running down his leg instead of spurting proved he didn’t have a ruptured blood vessel.

2.      There was a sudden jerk on her head. Blue-black ichor sprayed across her face, and she gasped. Another jerk, and she could feel the thing’s pincers being drawn out of her skin. Kelen rolled her eyes upward, to find the big Seneecian standing less than a meter away from her. He tossed away the piece of the creature he’d dragged off her face as his arms and talons dripped dark colored gore.

3.      The planet ended at the temple. Literally. As if some cosmic knife had sliced the world in two, right where the building was located. Except, in this case, she wondered what came first—the building, or the catastrophe which carved open this world. To the right and left, the world disappeared. A ragged edge of land stretched as far as she could see on both sides, leading away from the structure. Space lay beneath their feet, with only the thin haze of an atmosphere separating them.

4.      The female was beginning to bother him in ways that were pleasant, yet uncomfortably not. While her intelligence and bravery spoke to his military soul, her beauty and compassion whispered to his heart. He knew he shouldn’t feel this way about her but he no longer had any control over his emotions at this point. Too much had happened. Their uncertain future promised more uncertainty to come—most of which wouldn’t be good.

5.      Kelen remained sitting there, watching him. Observing him. Taking advantage of this rare moment to study him. If not for the fine covering of short fur enveloping his body, he appeared human. Give or take the claws on his hands and feet. She’d seen his sharp, pointed teeth. She’d witnessed first-hand his strength and bravery. And, without question, his endurance was beyond what any human man could withstand.

6.      “Do you honestly believe that’s what it was? A moment of weakness?” She frowned. “Kyber, in the short time I’ve come to know you, I’ve never met anyone with your strength of character, Terran or otherwise. You’ve never hesitated to do what you feel you must do, even if it goes against your training. I’ll even wager when you protected me against those eye worms, you broke a few of your own laws. Trust me, I know what weakness is. I’ve had to deal too many times with crew members who refused to break rank to do the right thing. But you, what you did to me, what we shared, that was not weakness. It was compassion. It was caring in its purest form. Regardless of the fact that we’re two different species, deep inside we’re still two people who’ve been through hell, and we’re still caught in the middle of it. You offered solace, and I accepted it. Plain and simple. And, Kyber? I would accept it again. This shit isn’t over. There’s no telling what all we’ll encounter. We could die today for all we know.”

A hundred years ago, the last people of Earth landed on planet
AR617b. It was their only hope after being forced to flee the dead planet that was once their ancestral home.

The native inhabitants of AR617b, known as gerons, are sentient creatures that resemble a cross between dragons and griffins of old Earth lore. When they initially tried to destroy the settlers, a deal was made to ensure both species' survival. It was decided that each year, every five-year-old human child must take The Walk across a hundred meter field. If they don't stop or run, they will arrive safely on the other side, and be allowed to grow up and have families of their own. But if they break the rule, the gerons will kill them. Unless, by a strange quirk of fate, a geron decides to Pair with the child, taking and raising the human as its own.

Emmala took The Walk, and found herself adopted by one of the older gerons, an immense silvery-white creature named Zonaton. For the next fifteen years, he cared for her, protected her, and loved her. But now Emmala's real family wants her back, and they will do everything they can to have her returned, even if it means killing Zonaton, and starting an all-out war with the gerons.

What neither the settlers nor gerons realize is that there is another alien species watching and waiting for the two combatants to go into battle. Because when they do, that will be the aliens’ cue to destroy everyone and claim AR617b for their own.

Still, he got a kick out of the little freak show featuring the woman dressed in a green costume. But once he got home, she began to haunt his every waking minute.

It wasn’t long before Compton discovered the truth about the alien woman and his growing feelings for her. Unfortunately, Lawson Hall wasn’t about to give up his bread and butter without a fight.

Six on Sunday - VALL'S WILL

Six paragraphs from VALL'S WILL, a sensuously erotic sci-fi romance novel.

1. Lacing her fingers through his, she led Vall out of the landing bay, with the rest of the crew in tow. The rescued man remained silent, but he examined every aspect of the ship along the route. Each door panel, corridor offshoot, and crew member who walked by and acknowledged their captain in passing, were all given the same short but intense scrutiny. Will noticed how he continued to walk hunched over. In the brighter light, his filthy appearance stood out. For the first time, further evidence of his imprisonment was clear to see, including the prominent ribs, the lack of muscular strength and coordination, and the almost death-white skin stretched over his shoulders and collarbones. A quick glance behind him verified what she had felt earlier. He had been brutalized. Vall glanced over at her. His obvious trust in her tugged at her heart.

2. Will stopped abruptly and stared up at Vall swaying slightly. He appeared to be confused or disoriented. He was no longer naked. A pair of off-duty slacks hung off his bony hips, but he had shed the pullover top. His wrists were bound in medicated wraps, and she could see similar adhesive patches around his ribs and shoulders. His face lit up at the sight of her. His gritty thick hair had been pulled into a single rope behind his back. For a moment, Will blinked at the sight of his chest. His male nipples were heart-shaped. When he moved in her direction, she glanced back up at him.

3. Outside, the stars sped by. Planets spun overhead, then disappeared behind them. Whole galaxies whirled in brilliantly lit glory as the ship passed them by. Gradually, Vall's breathing slowed as he drifted off to sleep. Oddly enough, Will felt herself becoming equally drowsy. She was warm. She was comfortable. And for some reason she couldn't fathom, she felt protected. Safe. Wanted. It was an odd sensation, given the fact that he didn't possess a natural shield like she did. She fell asleep within his embrace, and the dreams she thought would haunt her never appeared. Or, if they did, she didn't remember.

4. "She's a captain of a Nion warship. In the whole fleet of nearly eighty, she's only one of six women capable enough to handle the job. And she's only one of three still actively on duty." Killjorn laid a hand on the young man's arm. She was mildly surprised when he didn't flinch or draw back. "She's also a young woman with a need to be loved. But she has to be careful. She can't take reckless chances, not if she's to maintain her captaincy. And that means she has to deliver you over to someone else, and have them take you to Regency Base."

5. The figure behind her almost appeared to expand in a rush of darkness and shadow. Vall descended upon him like a silent wraith. Instinctively, Plymon threw up his shields to protect himself against whatever the young man intended. To his horror, Vall plunged a hand through the aura and grabbed him by the neck. Incredibly strong fingers dug into his windpipe, nearly closing off his air. Plymon tried to struggle, but the grip was too powerful.

6. Why am I crying? Because I know this isn't over. Vall may be gone, but he'll be back. He'll come back for Willis because there is a power inside him, or a being, or something so rare and unknown that few have ever faced one. And that creature, or being, or whatever it is inhabiting him, needs Willis. He needs her because, without her, that power can overcome him. It will make him do things that would ultimately make him suffer. In the end, it could destroy him...if he doesn't have her with him.

New! VALL'S WILL

New!

VALL'S WILL
A sensuous sci-fi romance novel
by Linda Mooney

A Nion warrior never kills. Never. But this time, she may have to destroy the man she loves.

They found him chained in the depths of an enemy ship. Half-starved, beaten, and abused in more ways than anyone could ever imagine, the man still exhibited a strength of character that impressed his deliverers, including Captain Willis Tayte.

Something about this one, whom his captors called Vall, tugged at her heart. It was too bad she wouldn't have the chance to explore the exciting new feelings he brought to her when she was around him. Her orders were to deliver him to the nearest Regency base, where it would be determined what species he belonged to, and then be indoctrinated into his new life of freedom. He would be returned home, and Will would go back to her ship.

At least, that was the plan, until a ship of unknown origin suddenly appears from out of nowhere and demands Vall in exchange for her life and the lives of millions more. It isn't until she finally discovers Vall's true identity that Will realizes how special he is to keeping balance in the Universe. And how special she has become to him.

Warning! Contains baldness for women, explosions, abandonment, a miracle survival, and the decision to kill the only person she will ever love.

Six on Sunday - RHEA 41070

Six paragraphs from RHEA 41070
An erotic sci-fi romance novel
Available from Whiskey Creek Press Torrid
http://www.whiskeycreekpress.com/torrid/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=536

1. “They’re Replacements,” Via spat out. She shoved herself away from the walkway’s railing and confronted the female scientist. “That’s why you’ve got all that firepower, and the secrecy, and the ungodsly amount of money the rawlstone was going to give us. He’s bought himself a fucking Replacement!”

2. He dropped his hands into his lap. Rhea stared at them, wishing they would reach back into her hair and do those wonderful motions again that pleasured her down to her toes. For some strange reason, the commander saw where she was staring and hastily clasped his fingers together over a rather large bulge in his pants. She’d seen other men do the same thing, lace their fingers together, especially over their reproductive organs when they tended to expand.

3. His decision wasn’t hard to come by. His survival instincts had kicked in back at the medical facility, at the BIMIC as Rhea called it, when he discovered Veerim had implicated him in illegally transporting a Replacement. With all the crap he was currently having to deal with—the Adrolls and their missing shipment, and the money they believed he still owed them—the last thing he needed was to have his holo transmitted to every law enforcement agency in the universe. The authorities would leave him alone with regards to the Adroll case, because that was considered within the Adrollian jurisdiction. But this bit with the Replacement, this was an intergalactic matter. That meant a bigger problem, tougher punishment, and longer sentence. Possibly a two-life term.

4. Rhea screamed as she left the floor. At the same time, strong arms snatched her around her waist, and she was thrown down upon the bed. Bock pressed her against the bedding with his body as he grabbed the edges of the bed with both hands and held on. Miraculously the furniture remained stable as the cruiser bucked, but loose items flew around the cabin. Something hard banged him in the ribs and Bock grunted in pain from the impact. The ship jumped again, the roar of the engines making every inch of the cruiser vibrate. And then, as quickly as it started, it was over.

5. Which was why, when Bock had heard her soft plea for him to show her sex, to give her a taste of perfection between a man and a woman, having to deny her had been a knife slicing away inside him. The pain hurt so fucking much, he would swear he was hemorrhaging inside.

6. Rhea’s neuro-gasms were over. She was left lying in a semiconscious heap on the floor. Her breathing remained ragged, and her hands continued to twitch like the death throes of an animal, but she was alive. Bock reached for her with the intent of throwing her over his shoulder. Instead, Via grabbed him by the back of his jumpsuit and nearly jerked him off his feet as she ran past him on her way out. He stumbled, but managed to regain his balance to sprint after her, with Patt already leading them to where the Bleak Tempest was tethered. Still, he managed one last glimpse back over his shoulder at the petite young woman lying still and silent, and prayed she would understand. And forgive him.
