Two species, bitter enemies, are determined to destroy each other, until they realize they need one another to survive a major catastrophe.

As they race through a nebulous space anomaly in the midst of battle, the Terrans and Seneecians are blown through a wormhole to crash land on an uncharted world. A half world. A world containing the remains of a long-dead civilization.

Lt. Kelen Chambliss knows she has no reason to trust the furred, humanoid creatures, but she and her crew members cannot survive without their help, and the Seneecians cannot survive without theirs. Neither can she ignore the fearsome-looking one called Kyber, with his wicked talons and piercing green eyes.

As they slowly come to realize there is no escape or forthcoming rescue from the barren planet, Kelen learns there is much about the enemy she never knew. Including the fact that Kyber's formidable appearance hides a strong, brave, and caring heart.

On a half-world filled with danger and deception, the only thing keeping them sane and safe was their love.

They were no longer Terran and Seenecian. They were brothers-in-arms, fighting against a common foe.

With all new obstacles to face—a new climate, new enemies, and new personal issues for Kelen—the crew has their work cut out for them in this new territory. Already beaten down and broken, their food and water rations dwindling, and constant, non-stop attacks, it’s only a matter of time before they’re defeated.

On Neverwylde, you must learn to adapt. Protect those you love. But most importantly, be careful who, or what, you trust.

RETURN TO NEVERWYLDE
The Rim of the World, Book 7
Sensuous Sci-Fi Romance

Word Count: 57.7K

Things have been quiet on Neverwylde, but everyone has been busy. With a new group of research scientists sent to spend the next six months on the planet, their goal is to learn and document as much as possible to classify the alien world as a 2A planet. But things never go as planned on this still wild and unknown galactic anomaly.

Dox has a one-track mind, but that’s normal for his kind. Being an isotope baby, he was specifically created to be highly intelligent, often found working on inventions, and rarely speaking beyond a couple words. But he’s also fiercely loyal and protective, as well as sweet and innocent, with zero experience when it comes to women. They never even crossed his mind, until now.

Xeno-archaeologist Dr. True Brown can’t wait to get her feet on Neverwylde soil. Having researched everything there is to know of the planet so far, she’s somewhat starstruck when meeting the original crew, but no amount of research could prepare her for the reality of the world, or the feelings the quirky, quiet, innocent tinkerer invokes. She didn’t plan on romance while on this mission, but then again, she didn’t anticipate her fellow scientists turning on them either.

Politics and greed are getting in the way of science and discovery, and may push everyone off the planet for good, wiping out all of their hard work. With months turning into days, the crew scrambles to protect a world filled with endless precious resources and intelligent life.

Once again the greatest enemies may not be the deadly creatures on the planet, but some of their own.

Warning! Contains a borrowed uniform, lessons on love, lost luggage, a purple cavern, a mosaic map, relevant theories, alien watchdogs, low-frequency sound, and a fight to protect others as well as those who are beloved.

Six on Sunday - RETURN TO NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Bk. 7

Six paragraphs from RETURN TO NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Book 7

1. True descended the short flight of stairs and walked around to the front of the shuttle to get her first unblemished glimpse of this strange new world. The first thing she noticed was how arid the air was. It was pungent with smells she couldn’t identify, and that in itself was exhilarating. New smells. Unknown smells. Alien smells from an ages-old world.

2. He stared at her, indecision on his face. It confirmed her earlier suspicions. This man was a loner, and rarely conversed with others. Mostly because he was an isotope baby. Created in a test tube and raise like a specimen. The emphasis for such beings was to create highly intelligent people who could go out into space, sometimes totally on their own, and not suffer loneliness. They were capable of surviving in the most extreme conditions, usually because they could think of ways, or invent methods or devices, to save themselves and others.

3. A wide, thin beam of light swept over them. In the next instant, Dox fired on the things. More of them appeared, climbing over the lip of the rock, swarming it. Moving faster in an attempt to reach the two of them. True fired her weapon, aiming where Dox did not. The creatures shrieked as they disintegrated, but it seemed to have little effect on the numbers that now covered the platform to the point where the rock was no longer visible.

4.  “Starting immediately, before any use of the transporters, all receiving platforms must be swept first with expulsion rays,” Kyber announced, getting directly to business. “We are seeing more frequent attacks by the lower lifeforms, and we must remain vigilant. For those of you new here, have one of us show you how to have that done before you venture off. I also strongly suggest you keep a detailed map of the main board, so you can keep track of where you are. Jules, can you update their equipment?”

5. Impulsively, she threw her arms around his neck and gave him a hug. Dox’s arms encircled her body almost protectively, and for a long moment they stood there, wrapped in each other’s embrace. He was a strong and steadying force, unaffected by the magnitude of what was in front of them and surrounding them. Or maybe he seemed oblivious to what was around him because he’d become acclimated to the sight. Either way, she was glad he was there, watching out for her safety.

6. Something landed beside her with a wet thud. More pieces rained down on them. Chunks of flesh pelted the ground. Greenish droplets like blood splattered the area. The air reeked with a stench that made breathing feel like she was inhaling acidic fumes. Dox continued to cover her, pressing her against the ground, and she could feel the pounding of his heart against her back.

Six on Sunday - NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Book 6

Six paragraphs from NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Book 6 - a sensuous sci-fi romance

1. The entrance soon came into full view. With less than a handful of meters to go, Kyber stepped away from Kelen and signaled for a halt. “Cooter, hold back,” he whispered to the point man. Giving his fellow Seneecians a wave to join him, he faced the others. “We will emerge first and confront Duruk. I will inform him of your presence here, but I will demand that you be given asylum status.”

2. The shuttle vibrated as two warheads were fired from the belly of the craft. Everyone stared at the twin beams of light arching forward, striking the bay’s outer doors. There was a miniscule flash of light as that section of the hull evaporated, leaving a yawning gap. From where they were, they could see some of the shuttles within the ship had been damaged, but for the moment there was no way Duruk or his men could come after them. Not unless he used the massive warship itself to give chase, which Kyber believed the man would.

3. Kelen and the others turned their attention to him. At the same time, the major snorted with laughter. “The isotope must have read my mind. You are focusing on those transport portals and completely forgetting about the fact that there could be a hell of a lot more on that world in the way of technology and who knows what else. We’re only scratching the paint off this ship. We have no idea what’s beneath.”

4. Kelen breathed in Kyber’s musky scent and burrowed her nose deeper into the soft, short curls covering his chest. She noted that his pelt was no longer coarse. Since their rescue, they had begun their recovery. Along with ample food, rest, and no longer being stressed with trying to survive on a minute-by-minute basis, they were healing mentally, physically, and emotionally.

5. “My one, I do not know what will happen when we land. I do not know what atrocities Duruk and the others will inflict upon us. But I want you to know this. My life has changed because of you. For the first time since I began my career, my time in the service is no longer my entire focus.” He undid his harness and got up from his seat, then went over to her, stopping beside her and lifting her chin to meet his gaze. The lights from the console shone on his pelt, emphasizing his otherworldly appearance. “I never believed I would have a future outside of the military. Yes, I hoped one day to find someone who would help me continue my line, but…” He gave her a soft smile. “How could I have prepared myself for someone like you? Kelen, I do not expect to survive what is to come.”

6. She presented herself military style, remaining silent and aloof until the moment when she was directly addressed. In truth, her stomach was tied in knots, and the palms of her hands were sweaty. She had no idea what she’d find when they finally led her to Kyber. She had no idea what would be left of the man she had fallen in love with, was still deeply in love with, but it no longer mattered. They had the chance to live their lives together and she’d accepted the challenge for the both of them. All that remained was discovering whether or not Kyber was physically and mentally capable of coming with her.

Six on Sunday - NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Book 5

Six paragraphs from Neverwylde, The Rim of the World, Book 5.

1. The growing heat was becoming oppressive, turning the air into a suffocating blanket, making it harder and harder to draw breath. Turning to the panel, Kyber searched for the white light that they believed indicated the temple. When he finally realized what he was seeing—or rather, what he was not seeing—he froze in stunned disbelief. “We may have a problem.”

2. Walking hunched over quickly sapped their strength. After another hour, Kyber realized he was no longer sweating although the temperature remained sweltering. His body couldn’t emit enough moisture to help cool him. He’d noticed Fullgrath had stopped wiping his brow some time ago, which meant he and everyone else was tottering on the edge of heat exhaustion. Placing one foot in front of the other was becoming a major effort. In addition, he felt light-headed, and his eyes were having difficulty remaining focused. The others appeared to be having similar problems.

3. The hot, orange-tinted room was replaced with a blast of freezing cold. Add the advancing darkness enveloping him, and Kyber found himself momentarily at a loss as to where to go. The wind picked up, forcing him to jump off the platform as bits of frozen rain sliced through the main opening in the temple and pelted him like a hundred tiny knives. Running to the nearest wall, he pressed his back against it when he heard his name. Following the sound, he felt a hand grab his arm and jerk him behind another wall.

4. The high-pitched shrieks were pathetic to hear. As Kelen listened, tears streamed down her face as she imagined the terror the little creatures were facing. After a few more seconds, she knew she couldn’t desert them. Not after what they had done to save her life.

5. Kelen watched as the security officer advanced, his body outlined by the orangish light. Everyone’s attention was on Cooter, when a high, piercing whistle came from behind her. She whirled around in time to spot Five hastily climbing down Dox’s pants leg. When the furry reached the ground, he tugged on Dox’s uniform and gave another short screech. Before she could comprehend what was going on, Five dashed for the tunnel wall and vanished.

6. The front door opened and Fullgrath stumbled in, out of breath. The man was wide-eyed as he gestured outside. “Guys! You gotta see this! Now!” Before anyone could ask, he raced back out of the apartment.

Six on Sunday - NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Book 4

Six paragraphs from Neverwylde, The Rim of the World, Book 4, a sensuous sci-fi romance.

Releasing June 19th, and now available for pre-order!

    1.     The others waited expectantly. Finally, Kyber gave a single slow nod. “We must accost whatever is out there. We do not know if that creature is aware of these tunnels. If we leave, and it does have knowledge of them, it might track us. If it is unaware of their existence, it may be able to sniff us out. Either way, we cannot take that risk.”

    2.     Kelen soon noticed the further Hoov led them down the tunnel, the slower everyone moved. It wasn’t because they were being cautious. It was because they were all past the point of exhaustion. With all they had been through these past few weeks, their stamina was shot. Old wounds hadn’t had the chance to heal before new ones were incurred. Worse, their senses were overloaded from constantly trying to keep themselves alert and attentive to their surroundings.

   3.     Falling forward was like taking a plunge into the unknown. Her heart leaped into her throat as she launched herself off the platform. She saw the trap door-like opening rise in front of her face, but instead of being swallowed in darkness, a pair of strong hands caught her mid-thigh and lowered her to the ground.

    4.     Kyber gently extracted himself from Kelen, lowering her to the floor. She’d finally succumbed to sleep, for which he was grateful. Her bleeding was playing havoc with her body, on top of everything else she’d endured. Although she was managing to keep herself together, in spite of the added stress of their current situation, he could sense she was close to breaking. And there was nothing he could say or do for her to make things more bearable, other than to keep reassuring her of his presence and support.

   5.     Kyber threw up his hands, talons fully extended, and let out a roar. The other Seneecians joined him, and the sound of their growls reverberated inside the enormous cavern. Their show of force was more than intimidating. For a second, her initial fear of Kyber’s race, her trepidation she thought she’d overcome, returned. Seeing and hearing their challenge sent chills through her body, and she shuddered. Kelen then realized all five Seneecians had formed a human barrier in front of her and her fellow crew members. She noticed Mellori and Jules holding their blasters with both hands, but kept them hidden behind the Seneecians. She glanced behind her where Dox and Sandow were holding back.

   6.     “Like you, I wish to be cleansed and brushed free of all this grit. This wound in my side, when I think it is starting to heal, it reopens and the anguish begins anew. Like you, there are foods I regret I will never enjoy again. I miss feeling whole and well and strong. Strong enough to protect you.” He kissed her temple. “I miss Seneecia as much as I believe you miss Earth. I miss watching the falling moons on my world, and the winds that smell of heesia mint and opal wood. Kelen, there are nights I have dreamed of taking you there.”

Six on Sunday - NEVERWYLDE, The Rim of the World, Book 2

Six on Sunday
NEVERWYLDE
The Rim of the World, Book 2

  1.  The creature undulated closer to the towers and the huge sheet-like net that was stretched across the lip of the falls. From the depths of its long, serpentine throat came a sound that was part scream, part scraping noise that dragged through Kelen’s brain like a magnet in an electrical field. She winced from the pain, clenching her pants in her fists to keep from clutching her ears and falling to the ground. Behind her, she felt Kyber shudder at the sound, but he remained unmoving, as impossible as it almost was.

2.  “I say we stay here for at least a day or two,” Kyber announced. “We need to rest. We need some time to recover. We still haven’t gotten over the shock of crashing on this planet, or what we went through when we fought those eye worms and other monsters. That’s taken a heavy physical toll on all of us.” He eyed Tojun. “We can discuss this further tomorrow, after we’ve recuperated and had something to eat. But I agree with you. If there’s any chance we can get off this planet, we’ll take it. It doesn’t matter if it’s by Seneecian or Terran ship.”

3.  She gave him a relieved smile. “Thank you. Now, about your state of undress.” She motioned toward his lap. “Is there a reason for the striptease? Or is it wishful thinking, now that we’re alone?” One corner of her mouth tilted upward, the playful expression extending to the twinkle in her eyes. No longer able to resist, he cradled her face in his hands and leaned over to kiss that smile into submission.

4. On the ship, D’har Plat’s rule had been harsh and unforgiving. On board, he’d had the full authority of the Seneecian Alliance to back him. Any crew member who raised his ire was at the man’s mercy, which could be swift and bloody. It was their way. It was Seneecian law—to dismiss and be rid of those found weak and unsuitable, rather than attempt any sort of compromise or collaboration. Or rehabilitation.

5.  Sandow exhaled loudly. “I can tell the Seneecians who accompanied Kyber are frightened, but they believe they have no other choice now that Kyber’s no longer here. You have to remember, they feel they must follow the D’har’s commands because they’ve seen what’ll happen to them if they disobey. Personally, I think they’re afraid of him. Remember what your teachers taught you back at the academy? About how brutal and unforgiving the Seneecian military is? Plus, I think, now I can’t be sure, but I think the D’har has told them a Seneecian rescue ship is on its way. It’s possible Massapa and the others are also keeping that in the back of their minds.”

Both Jules and Sandow started to protest, but were quickly silenced when Kleesod aimed his blaster at them and hissed. Blinking back tears, she managed to sit up again, with a little help from Fullgrath. Her face burned, and not all of it was from the blow the D’har had dealt her. The Seneecian D'har immediately assumes command, and he makes it clear the Terrans are now under his jurisdiction. Everyone must obey his rule as he takes full control of their weapons, their lives, and the only female, Kelen. But when Kyber announces that he and Kelen have mated, Kyber is banished from their midsts.

What follows is a harrowing ordeal as Kelen Chambliss fights to be reunited with the Seneecian who has claimed her heart, and Kyber struggles to survive long enough to get her back.
