Life is harsh in the untamed wild, especially when he has to face other creatures who are also trying to survive. But the bears and wolves and other dangerous animals are no match for the two-legged variety who see Joshua as easy prey.

He has no idea that the injured wolf he rescues will become more than a companion. It will also save his life, and show him a love he only believed was possible in fairy tales.

Because the wolf, Qitirin, is more human than anyone could imagine.

Warning! Contains ill-fitting clothes, inhumane traps, actionable threats, banishment, pissed-off bears, and a way of life that demands both undying love and the ultimate sacrifice.

Six on Sunday - QITIRIN

Six paragraphs from Qitirin, a Sensuous Paranormal/Fantasy Romance

***
    1. Once he reached the Barrok River bridge, it was normally a two and a half hour trek to the cabin. Today, it was closer to four hours before Joshua traipsed up the side of the mountain to where his place was located. It had gone dark an hour ago, and storm clouds were blocking out whatever light could be gleaned from the night sky. Regardless, he had trekked in near pitch black before. It wasn't the smartest thing to do, considering most large predators did their hunting after sundown. But he had no choice. Those two idiots who'd confronted him at Casey's had put a serious dent in his schedule, delaying his return.

    2. Joshua's hands froze on the wood stock as a nearly human scream of anguish came from outside the cabin. Instinctively, he grabbed the gun and hit the floor, freezing in place. Heart pounding, beads of sweat coated his skin. A thin trail of salty perspiration dribbled down the side of his face. The scream came again, forcing him to squeeze his eyes shut.

    3. He stopped, his hand on the door latch. "What am I doing?" He took a step back as realization sank in. "What am I doing? What am I thinking? Why am I even arguing with myself about this? Get your shit together, Cobb! She doesn't exist. She never existed." He gave the rope another glance. "Come on, Cobb. Get fucking, freaking real here! I must have imagined it all. There isn't any shape-shifting wolf girl. There's no such thing!"

    4. Silently, she moved toward, pressing herself into the blanket he held open. Automatically, his arms went around her, enveloping her within the quilt as she molded her body against his. He realized she was tall. The top of her head bumped his nose when she nuzzled the mat of hair peeking above the neck his shirt. Her breath, like a warm, moist mist, tickled. And as she lifted her face, pulling one arm from her warm cocoon to wrap around his neck, he hesitated for only a moment, then readily lowered his lips to hers.

    5. He brought her lips to his and folded his arms around her to keep her from getting too chilled. Their kiss was deep, shadowing their fear and worry. Rocking together on the ground, they let the terror of the past quarter hour drain away. Until, reluctantly, he pulled away from her and gazed into her tear-filled eyes. He glanced over her, looking for any injury.

6. "I may not be an alpha, but I sure as hell will protect what is mine. And Qitirin is mine. Other thing, Annon, your secret is safe with me. You have nothing to worry about. I will do whatever it takes to keep knowledge of the loup garou safe because, by doing so, I can keep Qitirin safe. So rest assured and take your pack and move on. Find some place you feel is best for your family, and leave us in peace."

Sneak Peek Sunday - AEQUANA'S QUEST

Welcome to Sneak Peek Sunday!

Here are six paragraphs from my upcoming release, AEquana's Quest, Book 2 of the AEquana Series.

Blurb: It will take a very long time before AEquana heals from the abuse and torture she endured growing up in those government labs. But Talon's love is helping her forget and go forward with life.

Unfortunately, they stumble onto a multi-million dollar gem heist, and are targeted by those who think they're easy prey. Their enemies have no idea who they're up against when they try to take on an ex-Navy SEAL and his mermaid.

1. As she strapped the transmitter around her wrist, he glanced over her as she lay sprawled on the bottom of the boat, the tail's horizontal flukes arched over his tank of oxygen. The plasti-sheen skin glistened in the mid-morning sun. The suit adhered to her with its microscopic inner layer of adhesive, but it did nothing to shield her with any kind of protective covering. Heat and cold could easily penetrate the fine layer, as well as could probing eyes—which was the biggest reason why Talon refused to let anyone else come within sight of his wife once she’d prepared herself. Or else they would be able to see everything about her. Everything, including every inch of her cream-colored skin, the thatch of snowy curls at the juncture of her thighs, and those enticing dusky-rose nipples. Only a set of twenty-seven tiny puncture-like scars circling around her left hip, thigh, and buttocks marred her perfection. Talon knew every one of those scars, left behind by a bull shark’s attack a few months before. He knew them, had since kissed each one of them, and had learned a lot about himself in the days that had followed.

2. Reaching over, he lifted her chin so he could see into her face. Her eyes were expressionless. Waiting. “We’re going to take this slow and very, very carefully. First thing, right off the bat, when you meet Giles, if in any way you feel uncomfortable or uneasy around him, let me know immediately and we’ll call the whole thing off. Do you understand what I’m saying? You’re going to run this show. Not me. Not Giles. You. You will have the ability to stop any process, any examination with a simple word. And I’m going to be beside you every second, every step of the way.”

3. Jeters watched the SUV pull into the parking lot of the canoe rental shop and stopped. A moment later two people he instantly recognized emerged from the vehicle and strode over to where he was waiting by his patrol car. The big Indian was as intimidating-looking as he remembered. But, if anything, the willowy beauty taking his hand had grown more intoxicating.

4. “If you already knew the answer, why did you ask? Besides, having two pairs of eyes down there might help us find those diamonds quicker. And the sooner we can do that and go home, the happier I’ll be.” He turned around so she could see the worry he would no longer hide from her. “You’re not yourself, my love. And I swore to myself that day I took you out of that bunker I would never let any thing or any one ever hurt you again.”

5. She silently handed it over, then watched as he withdrew a hammer from behind the driver's seat. Closing the door, he went around to her side of the vehicle where he would be shielded from traffic. Placing both phones on the cement, he proceeded to pound them into oblivion. Æquana watched in the rearview mirror as he attacked the devices with something akin to viciousness. As if by demolishing them, he was getting back at Santo Mario for all the trouble and worry the man had caused. Venting his frustration in a way that would temporarily gratify his need for retribution.

6. Unable to resist, he lovingly kissed her again. "We're going to find out who this shark is. And when we do, and I promise we will, Deb is going to make certain he spends a long time behind bars. But in the meantime, I can't risk him getting his hands on you. The last time that happened, I thought I had lost you, and I nearly came unglued. I can't risk that happening again. Do you understand? That's why you and Buck need to hang back. If something does happen to me, the team will take you both away from here, out of harm's reach, where they can safeguard you. Maja, promise me you'll do that. For me. Because you love me."

Six on Sunday - BEAST OF THE BAYOU

Six paragraphs from BEAST OF THE BAYOU, Subwoofers Book 1, a sensuous paranormal romance.

1. A movement off to the side caught his attention, and he turned to give Thierry a smile. He was over his initial shock from when she'd arrived this morning. There he was, expecting to see a typical female's idea of going tracking and hunting by finding her wearing blue jeans and a lightweight short sleeve or sleeveless blouse. Instead, Thierry wore a long-sleeve denim shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a hunting vest, olive drab cargo pants, and a pair of scuffed snakeskin boots. A Houston Texans baseball cap sat on her head. And when she'd removed the cap and placed it on the dining table before eating, he noticed she'd put her hair up into a sensible ponytail. And no makeup. The woman was stunning without a speck of cosmetics.

2. She hefted her rifle, but kept the barrel pointed down. He expected her to say something about his decision, but instead she simply nodded. Pulling a key attached to a short keychain from one of her pants pockets, she tossed it to him. Yo caught the slight hesitation in her actions. It was almost as if she didn't want to handle the keychain at all. He paused to stare at the little enamel black bear dangling from the ring, then grinned at her. "Cute."

3. He sniffed, and instantly his skin constricted. His groin tightened in response, forcing him to turn his back to her. There it was again. Her perfume, or whatever it was that caused his head to swim. Shut inside the little cabin, and being in close proximity to her, was giving his olfactory senses the chance to fill his sinus cavities with that rich, almost mesmerizing scent. Trying to cover the obvious bulge in his pants, he stepped outside to breathe in the sweet air. Thierry followed.

4. Rearing up on his hind legs, Yo slowly turned 360 degrees, testing and tasting the air for any sign, any hint of another intruder. Satisfied there was no one else around, he dropped down onto all fours and concentrated on the leaves and bushes. It didn't take him long to find the faint trace of the sharpshooter, left there when the man pushed through the undergrowth as he made his way toward the cabin. The shooter may have used every stealth method he knew, but the one variant he never thought about was the one that would ultimately help Yo track him down. Huffing, Yo proceeded to follow the trail.

5. Total disbelief swept through her, and she lifted her face to stare at the enormous black bear as it launched itself at the man, attacking the shooter from the rear while the guy was concentrated on the cabin. The animal knocked the man face-first into the ground, then took out the guy's gun, along with the hand and part of the arm, with one heavy swipe of its huge claws. The bear roared again, showing her its wide mouth filled with wicked teeth, and Thierry recognized the sound as the one she'd heard earlier.

6. Crouching, Yo prepared to leap from the dock onto the trail, when he heard a familiar whistling sound. His blood froze. Without a second thought, he threw himself into the water as the shell hit the broadside of the boat, and the craft exploded, taking out most of the dock with it.

My Interview With: Challa Scott (RUNNER'S MOON: CHALLA)

LM: Today we're getting to meet Challa, from RUNNER'S MOON: CHALLA, book four of the "Runner's Moon" series. Hello, Challa! Thank you for joining us!

CS: Hello, Linda. Forgive me. I'm nervous.

LM: That's understandable. Don't worry. The readers just want to learn a bit about you before your book comes out on March 15th next year. Now, your back history is a bit different from the other Ruinos we've met. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

CS: Well, I was born on the Arra ship. I have no memories of Barandat. My parents were taken prisoners by the Arra. Actually, they were not mates when they were kidnapped. It wasn't until the Arra began to force all the unmated Ruinos to have sex that my mother and father found each other.

LM: And you were not their first born, am I correct?

CS: That is right. I don't know what happened to my first two siblings. At least, Jebaral told me I was Heela and Doon's third child. After I was born, the Arra took me away from them, so I never got to meet them before they died.

LM: I'm sorry to hear that. That's so sad! So, not only have you never seen your home world, you've never gotten to know your parents either!

CS: But I have Jebaral, and Tiron, and Simolif, and their life mates. They are my family now.

LM: (laughs) And we'll leave the reveal about you and the other Ruinos for the readers to find out in the next book! Thank you, Challa, for allowing us to get to know you better.

CS: You are very welcome. I've enjoyed it.

My Interview With: Compton Scott (RUNNER'S MOON: CHALLA)

LM: This is a special treat! I'm getting to interview two new people--the next hero and heroine from my Runner's Moon series. Today we're getting to meet Compton Scott, from RUNNER'S MOON: CHALLA, book four. Hello, Compton! This is quite a surprise and a pleasure!

CS: Hi, Linda! We're more than happy to be here!

LM: Okay, since readers haven't been introduced to you yet, we have to be careful not to spoil anything. But we can give out the facts that you're an Army veteran, and Challa is Ruinos.

CS: That's right. I was wounded in action overseas and given a medical discharge. I live in a small town over on the east coast, and that's where I met Challa.

LM: (laughs) A small town that's not Tumbril Harbor.

CS: Right. It's called Cooper. And it's more inland. Not right on the coast.

LM: You're a small town boy, born and bred, who entered the military right out of high school, right?

CS: Exactly. My folks were farmers before Dad died. Mom passed away when I was stationed overseas.

LM: And as of this interview, you and Challa have made a home for yourselves. But I'm sure the readers won't be surprised to learn that.

CS: No. But I'm sure they're gonna get a kick out of our story, and all the problems we had.

LM: Especially when the Arra showed up.

CS: Oh, shit, that was some scary stuff, that's for certain!

LM: I heard Challa loves the homestead, even though it's surrounded by farmland rather than forest.

CS: There's not a governmentally protected forest like Flatlock, but there's miles and miles of undeveloped land. Lots of natural land and trees and all for her to run in. Plus the house is a few miles from town, so the isolation gives her that added protection.

LM: She doesn't have a job at this time, does she?

CS: No. After she got away from the carnival, I convinced her to stay home and get to know the place first. Get to know the town and the people in it. After all, I grew up there and I know everybody. Once she feels settled enough, if she decides she wants to work somewhere, that's okay.

LM: What do the town folk think about her? Of course, no one in Cooper knows she's an alien.

CS: You're correct. Word got out she used to be with the carnival, but that's all. With her accent, she's obviously a foreigner. (laughs) But she's winning over the folks here.

LM: Well, Compton, I want to thank you again for letting us get a taste of who you are, and what Runner's Moon: Challa is about. I know the readers are anxious to read your story.

CS: Thank you for having us, Linda.

Runner's Moon: Challa, book 4 of the "Runner's Moon" series, will debut on March 15, 2010.
