Confined in a small shipping container for weeks on end, Taru was starving, dehydrated, and close to death. When she was given the option of remaining in the container until her owner could turn her in for the reward, or being one of fifteen females going to a mining moon to pleasure the drillers who were willing to pay for her services, she chose the latter. At least there was the possibility she could escape from there and get back with her people.

Kirby Luka agreed to pay the astronomical sum to have his own woman, if only to have a companion. Someone to talk to and maybe to share a bed with. He never expected to have to contend with having to take the last female in the group. What was left over. A female Gyra who not only was a feared and dangerous humanoid, but a deadly enemy.

Their initial meeting is contentious. But when a deadly disease infiltrates the close community, Kirby knows the only way he and Taru can survive is to get off that rock. That means working together and sacrificing what they both wanted.

They never anticipated the consequences of their actions.

Warning! Contains ice cream, solitary confinement, unprovoked attacks, a virulent infection, Gyra fallakka (not Vespidan), drooling, life for a life, and two people coming to realize that kindness has a way of working miracles with the heart.

Six on Sunday - LEFTOVER, a Sci-Fi Romance Novel

Six on Sunday - Six paragraphs from LEFTOVER, a sci-fi romance novel.

1. “This is Kirby Luka, badge number two-eight-two-eight-seven! We’re under attack! Requesting immediate evacuation!” Kirby glanced behind him where Taru was standing near the door. The sound of pounding made by the infected drillers and women on the other side rang loudly inside the room. Enough for those on the other end of the call to hear.

2. Kirby tried to point outward, only to be reminded he no longer had that ability with just a stump of an arm. Instead, he waved it at the man. “Brayton had it out for Taru as soon as he learned she was Gyra. How in the hell would she have been able to cause that outbreak? She was kept in isolation in a fucking shipping container the entire three weeks it took for Amswerth to deliver the females there. She had no contact with the other females. I took her from that hellish container to my cabin to recuperate. And right after that, Brayton confined us both to quarters. At no time did she leave my cabin.”

3. “There is a man to whom I owe my life. If it were not for him, I would not be here. In fact, he saved my life twice, and I have only been able to repay him once. I still owe him a life debt, and I intend to fulfill my obligation.” She cast Klo a crooked smile. “Now you may speak.”

4. “Yes.” Lifting her face, Taru took the rare step to make an additional comment. “In all honesty, Oromo, it took me some time to personally accept it, as well. I had a hard time making sense of the way he made me feel emotionally. Something about the way he handled himself, the way he treated me and spoke to me, and made certain I was fed and cleansed and allowed to heal… It was unlike anything I had ever encountered. What made it more incredible was the fact that he was a New Terran.”

5. “Don’t BS me, Taru. You and me…” He pointed to her, then himself. “This is serious between us. And you can’t tell me differently. I want to stay with you. And because you went to the trouble to have me rescued, I’m assuming you want to stay with me, too. Oh, yeah. That’s another story I need to hear.”

6. “My love, even if you offered to shuttle me to the medical center to have the regrowth done, I’d turn you down. I’ve seen guys who lost a hand or foot or limb and had the regrowth done. And soon after they were released, they’d leave the job, but I never knew why. Now I do. It’s because they could no longer function as they did before. And without that strength or agility, your days as a driller are over. No, let me have the mechanical arm, please.”
