I like non-fiction audio books, but never cared much for them in fiction--until my wife and I listened to Neil Gaiman's American Gods. It was the narrator: He did such a tremendous job with it.
I think you've hit the nail on the head, Mark. Most definitely the narrator can make or break the book!
