See, the thing about being a firefighter is that once it's in your blood -- you're always a firefighter.
One of my favorite writers, Dennis Smith, also headed to Ground Zero to help out. He retired from the New York Fire Department in 1981, after 18 years ... some of them at the busiest firehouse in the world.
