Network news anchor Daniel Halstrom is at the top of his field, but being at the bottom of the social ladder--being a slave--makes that hard to enjoy. Especially when NewWorld Media, the company who's owned him since childhood, decides to lease him on evenings and weekends to boost their flagging profits.
Daniel's not stupid; he knows there's only one reason a man would pay so much for what little free time he has, and it's got nothing to do with his knowledge of current events. But he's never been made to serve like that before, and he fears he won't survive the experience with his sanity intact.
He finds himself in the home of Carl Whitman, a talk show host whose words fail him time and again when it comes to ordering Daniel to bed. Daniel knows what Carl wants, but it seems as if Carl isn't willing to take it, and Daniel's not willing to give it freely. His recalcitrance costs him dearly, but with patience and some hard-won understanding, love just might flourish where once there'd been only fear and pain. Can Carl become the anchor in Daniel's turbulent life, or will he end up the weight that sinks his slave for good?

An Unexpected Review, and a Good Cry
Few things are dearer to an author than to get a review for a book that's been out for a while. What's more, it showed up unexpectedly on All Romance eBooks, and after reading it, I had tears in my eyes.

This book was amazing! Compared to some other stories, this one is fully developed and really knows how to hook the reader so they're crying at the end for the book ending. The theme is so unique with a futuristic, medieval setting that makes it believable. Everyone should read this book!
A brief history about my Battle Lord saga...
I wrote the story back in 2000. Subsequently, I put it away, thinking it was no good, hiding it like I'd done all my other works. When hubby finally gave me the courage to submit it, I made the mistake of sending it to Publish America. Yes, it was finally published, but for $29.95, it never sold. When PA finally sold me back my rights (yes, that's correct, I had to buy my rights back for $99, plus a handling charge), I felt the book was too old to submit it elsewhere, so I self-published it. I never expected it to sell as well as it has been, much less garner any further reviews (I got one, way back when it was with PA.)
Currently, there are two more finished sequels, a fourth in the works, a fifth outlined, and a trilogy set in the same "universe" planned. I hope they do as well, but for the moment, I'm just thrilled Atty and Yulen's story is finally being read. And enjoyed.

THE GIFTED is Finally Coming to Print!
I just got word that THE GIFTED, my sci-fi romance novel with New Concepts Publishing, will become available in print in June!
http://newconceptspublishing.com/Upcoming-Books.html
***
After being banished from her own world because her people deeply feared the scope of her powers, an anomaly shoots Sah'Reena toward Earth and the one man in the universe meant to be her mate.
No one, least of all Dr. Robin Dickenson, expected what they discovered when they opened the alien craft captured by the space shuttle Liberty while on a routine space mission. But from the moment he first sees the star girl, Sah'Reena, Robin is captivated.
Near death, and never expecting to see anything again beyond the endless void of space, Sah'Reena isn't certain, at first, that her mind isn't playing tricks on her. But the handsome face of the stranger she sees gives her hope for life when she'd thought all hope was gone.
Warning! Contains carbon dioxide poisoning, severe sleep depravation, challenging authority, kosher cooking, dissolving aircraft, and an ability that could wipe out an entire planet.

Three Graces
I blame Pandora Radio. I love Il Divo and Josh Groban. And since Pandora uses the music genome project, it gave me "Requiem" by Three Graces. I'd never heard of these women before now, and immediately went over to Amazon to listen to a sampling of their songs.
The voices, the blend, the rich orchestrations...

Six months ago, Cynthia Guerrero's lover and fellow archaeologist Rafael Santiago trekked into the Mexican jungle in search of one of the fabled Cities of Gold—and never emerged. Guilty over their parting, Cynthia won't rest until she knows what happened. When the discovery of a conquistador's journal corroborates Rafe's intended path, Cynthia is determined to finally leave the safety of the museum to rescue him, despite the conquistador's dire warnings, and her own traumatic past.
Arriving at a remote village deep in the jungle, Cynthia is both elated and angered to find Rafe alive. But he is far from well, having watched his team be decimated by a bloodthirsty demon-goddess. When Rafe reveals he has been gifted with supernatural powers—powers he plans to use to kill the beast and save his brother, still held captive in the temple—Cynthia must face her own inner demons to fight alongside the man she loves.

John Eagletalon had no idea what the government intended when it assigned him to its latest secret project - an icy blonde beauty with a miraculous ability. All he knew was that he owed Uncle Sam fourteen more months of his life, and if it meant being this woman's partner and bodyguard until he'd paid his dues, he'd find a way to endure the ordeal.
Until he discovered what the government had been doing to her. And at the same time, discovered he was falling hopelessly in love with her.
Now it's no longer a matter of protecting her. It's a matter of keeping her out of their clutches.
And making her his.
Warning! Contains a wise Indian saying, cold showers, extreme hazardous pay, corrupt scientists, sorry sons of bitches, chains and collars, things that bite, and a two thousand mile journey that ends in an incredible night of love.

My January Foodzie is Here!
My tasting box for January arrived yesterday. For those of you who don't know, Foodzie is a company that mails out treat-size edibles which are not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill snack items, with the option of going to their site and buying larger quantities. The companies which provide these treats are usually Mom-and-Pop operations or specialty shops.
Anyway, I'm hooked on it. I tend to graze when I'm working on the computer, and this box is a snacker's paradise. This month I'm getting to taste:
- dried nectarines and peaches
- Matcha and chocolate mini cupcakes
- assorted Guayusa (why-you-suh) tea
- roasted almonds with hickory salt, olive oil, and herbs de provence
- dulche de leche
- raw blueberry and gogiberry granola
Mmmmm....

A DIFFERENT YESTERDAY Was Reviewed!
I found A Different Yesterday to be an outstanding, uplifting read by Linda Mooney. It demonstrates how strong a person's first love can be. For Drew and Jo they had been best friends since childhood. They shared their hopes, dreams, innermost thoughts and secrets, knowing they could put total trust in one another. They could never imagine life without the other one. Unknowingly to them, the innocent and pure love they shared was about to be put to the test and turned upside down.
Drew's dad was being transferred to Maine, away from Jo, his best friend and true love. The news devastated both Jo and Drew. Before leaving they shared a kiss and Drew promised Jo he would one day come back to her.
Linda Mooney has written this book so the reader can be in the present and the past without getting lost and confused. I found that having the "yesterday" put in after a few chapters of the present, was a refreshing change. I usually do not like flashbacks in novels because it would lose me and become a nuisance. I did not feel this in A Different Yesterday. The flashbacks to 'yesterday' was the backbone of the book. It took you from Jo and Drew's childhood and the events that led up to Drew's entire family being slaughtered and Drew almost killed as well. It helped the reader understand why Drew became a nomad, on a journey to find out if his one true love had survived the 'apocalypse' as a result of the sun imploding due to global warming. The author gives outstanding and vivid detail so the reader can feel they are in the story experiencing what the characters experience.
I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it anyone needing a great book to curl up with. It has some graphic details involving violence, and several love scenes which were done in very good taste.
I give this book five stars.

Puns for the Educated Mind
The fattest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi.

Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.
Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says, 'I've lost my electron.' The other says 'Are you sure?' The first replies, 'Yes, I'm positive.'
There was the person who sent ten puns to friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did.

The Mature Lady Driver
A mature (over 40) lady gets pulled over for speeding.
Older Woman: Is there a problem, Officer?
Officer: Ma'am, you were speeding.
Older Woman: Oh, I see.
Officer: Can I see your license please?
Older Woman: I'd give it to you but I don't have one.
Officer: Don't have one?
Older Woman: Lost it, 4 years ago for drunk driving.
Officer: I see. Can I see your vehicle registration papers please?
Older Woman: I can't do that.
Officer: Why not?
Older Woman: I stole this car.
Officer: Stole it?
Older Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner.
Officer: You what?
Older Woman: His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk if you want to see.
The Officer looks at the woman and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun.
Officer 2: Ma'am, could you step out of your vehicle please!
The woman steps out of her vehicle.
Older woman: Is there a problem, sir?
Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner.
Older Woman: Murdered the owner?
Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please?
The woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk.
Officer 2: Is this your car, ma'am?
Older Woman: Yes, here are the registration papers.
The officer is quite stunned.
Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license.
The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer.
The officer examines the license. He looks quite puzzled.
Officer 2: Thank you ma'am, one of my officers told me you didn't have a license, that you stole this car, and that you murdered and hacked up the owner.
Older Woman: Bet the liar told you I was speeding, too.
(Thank you, Trinka!)

This is Incredible!
Check out the link below. I was shocked to find EXACTLY where I am right now on Google Earth...NOT a house or street but where I AM right now!
It's really unbelievable! I was surprised to know such a system exists.
It is a GPS and will find the exact location of any Internet user in a second, using a sophisticated algorithm to do so.

Saari Mitchell sees a psychologist in order to understand why—500 years later—she’s still dreaming of her dead lover. Her shrink isn't helping, the nightmares come every time she closes her eyes, and the lack of sleep is interfering with her job at Sacred Heart Hospital. With her psychic ability to heal the human spirit on the fritz, her auric radar becomes as reliable as her spotty cell phone service.
By day, Dhelis Guidry works as a detective for the New Angeles Police Department investigating the missing or murdered women in the Full-Moon Killer case. In his spare time he hunts rogue vampires as a Tueri executioner.
Brogan Vincent is a Tueri healer. Though he could offer his miraculous talents to the rich and powerful, he has chosen anonymity and peace by only using his psychic abilities among the Tueri.
One look into Saari's tri-colored eyes and both men realize she is Tueri. One touch tells them each she's their soul mate. But can either of them protect her from the Full-Moon Killer?

The ION Book Saver
I caught wind of this little gadget here, and I'm honestly fascinated. It takes pictures of your books and converts them to ePub format for your ereader. I have books that I know I won't ever see in digital format, and I'm seriously considering spending my hard-earned royalties to get one.
Gee. Maybe even start up a little business on the side? LOL!

Reading Your Old PDFs on Kindle
Do you have a collection of PDFs that you'd bought before Kindle came around? Or have you bought a book that's not yet available at Amazon? Here's how you can upload them to your Kindle.
Email the file to your Kindle address at Amazon. It'll be on your Kindle within moments. This little trick also works for HTML files.
Be aware, though, there is a fifteen cent charge for each book you do this to.
(Thanks, Edna!)

Her childhood crush, Grant Wolverton, makes a handsome offer for Steward House, vowing to return it to its former glory. Delia agrees, as long as he’ll allow her to oversee the restoration.
Working so closely with Grant, Delia finds it difficult to hide her unique talent—especially when their growing passion fuels her abilities.
But someone else lusts after both her man and the raw power contained in the Steward land. Soon, Delia finds herself fighting not just for Grant’s love, but for both their lives…

Is Your Title Holding You Back?
This was brought up on one of my author loops. Go put your book title to the test here.
Lulu Titlescorer
The object of this "test" is to see what your chances are of your title becoming a Best Seller. But don't fret if your title shows a "low chance". "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" only managed a 14.6% chance of being a best seller, and "The DaVinci Code" scored only 10.2% !

Audio Books
Is there still a market for audio books? I mean, with Amazon Kindle having that print-to-speech ability, are people still willing to plunk down their money for CDs of people reading aloud their books?
Is the trend leaning more toward podcasts now? Is it better to sell audio versions as downloadable files, rather than on CDs?
Opinions? Suggestions?
Curious minds want to know.

Mathematics, 2011 (or Why Our Children Aren't Learning)
If you've ever wondered why our children are having difficulty learning math, here's what is being taught at the school where I work.
To begin with, we are expected to make every child "college ready". This means we can no longer teach math vertically. All math problems must now be taught horizontal and algebraic.
To begin with, we are expected to make every child "college ready". This means we can no longer teach math vertically. All math problems must now be taught horizontal and algebraic.
The above is a "simple" math problem, and how it is solved. 117 has to be "de-constructed" into 100 + 10 + 7.
58 is actually 50 + 8.
You add all the 100s, then all the 10s, then all the 1s. Since 7 + 8 = 15, that has to be de-constructed into 10 + 5, then you have to re-add the 10s.
It all makes perfect sense, right?
You should see subtraction.

And don't get me started on multiplication and division.

A Whole New Popeye
One of my students wore this today. Makes me fearful to think what Olive Oyl might look like.
Is it me, or is there some "extra endowment" in the old boy?

Movie Tropes
I watched a handful of movies over the holidays, and I've discovered there are a couple of old movie tropes I wish Hollywood would stop using.
Why is it...
- when a person dies, it's always with their eyes open, so the hero has to manually close them.
- when someone takes an object off a shelf that hasn't been touched in ages, she or he BLOWS the dust off of it (instead of wiping it off), and then there's the obligatory coughing that follows.
- just when you think the bad guy is dead, the hero NEVER checks to see if he's really dead. He just turns to walk away, and that's when the bad guy launches himself at the hero in one last attempt to kill him.

Reading a PDF on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad
I've had a couple of readers comment on the fact that my new release is PDF only, and they don't want to have to read it on their home computers.
Here's what you can do. Go to the App Store and download the BLUEFIRE reader. (It's free.)
- Now, plug in your iPhone/Pad/Pod.
- When iTunes kicks in, go to DEVICES and click on your device.
- Go to Apps.
- Scroll down. You'll see the Bluefire app there. Click on it.
- Now, open your computer and find the PDF of the book you want to read. Click, drag, and drop into the Bluefire Documents folder. Voila!
Let the iDevice finish syncing, then you can open it, go to your Bluefire reader and click it on. The pdf will be there to read!

Reeve Taylor has hit his prime. Outwardly, he's physically fit--actually in the best shape of his life. He's got a great career, he came up smelling of roses after the invasion, his subordinates worship the ground he walks on and his lover's an attractive man with political clout. Life seems to be a fairytale, just perfect. What more could anyone want?
The sharpshooter's never measured success by money or an occupation, but instead by personal aspirations. Reeve wants it all--the kids, the house and the white picket fence. Driven by an insatiable need and tired of living in Slade's shadow, he begins to demand more out of their relationship than the swordsman is capable or perhaps willing to give.
Slade has walked this path before with the arguments and grief. He assumes Reeve's midlife crisis is just a blip, but it quickly becomes apparent this time his lover has crossed the line, alcohol, deceit and possible infidelity threaten the life they share. The sharpshooter's in trouble, his life's spiralling out of control. But can Slade forget the past and forgive him before it's too late?
