The Cochno Stone
The Cochno Stone is by far one of the most interesting, and beautiful, cup and ring carvings in Europe. Located in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, the Cochno stone is 42 feet long and 26 feet wide. It features approximately 90 carved indentions and grooved spirals, as well as a ringed cross and a pair of 4-toed feet.
It was discovered in 1887 by Reverend James Harvey and was exposed to the elements since its creation, yet miraculously maintained its immaculate petroglyphs. In 1964, however, Glasgow University archaeologists recommended it should be buried beneath several feet of top soil to protect the stone from vandals. It remained buried for 51 years, as housing developments also threatened the stone’s safety.
However, in September of 2015 the stone was excavated and completely exposed for a mere 36 hours to allow archaeologists and researchers to conduct some studies, gather new information, and take images and sketches so that they could create a replica. Afterwards, it was promptly buried once more.
There are many different interpretations of the carvings. Some say it’s a map which shows other settlements in the valley, others says it could have been used in sacrificial ceremonies where milk or water was poured into the grooves, or that it’s an astronomical map indicating constellations to help guide prehistoric farmers and indicate when they need to complete their harvest. What’s most likely, however, is that the stone was used for many different purposes over its many hundreds of years of existence, and that over time its utility varied based on the needs of the community surrounding it.
Similar stones and carvings have been found around the world, including Hawaii, India, and Africa.

Trish and Chuck
Waffler have no choice but to let Trish’s mother, Vera, move in with
them. Although it’s only meant to be a temporary
arrangement, antagonism
sets in almost immediately.
If having the woman living with them isn't enough, they're having to deal with increased pressure from their jobs. The stress has taken a toll on their relationship to the point where they've decided to seek help from a marriage counselor. And having the in-law from Hell constantly making disparaging remarks and throwing insults at them isn't helping any.
What they never expect is the effect Vera's whining and demands will have on their nearly nonexistent sex life.
Which will lead to a decision they hope will solve all their problems.

Six on Sunday - THE IN-LAW EFFECT, a Humorous Erotic Contemporary Romance by Linda Mooney Writing as Carolyn Gregg
Six paragraphs from The In-Law Effect, a humorous erotic contemporary romance.
1. Trish went back to the kitchen to fix her coffee, taking the mug to their bedroom where she could watch the shows she’d recorded. Plumping the pillows for her to sit back against, she shoved their pooch over to make room for herself. If things weren’t testy enough between her and her husband of twenty-one years, now they had her mother to contend with for heaven knew how long.
2. Trish grimaced. Mona had only met her mother once, and that was when Mrs. Trayder had been down for a few days during Christmas a couple of years ago. Trish had invited a few guests over for a party. It was a mistake she swore she’d never make again. No, not having another Christmas party. She swore she’d never have her mother there when she did. After that one encounter, all her friends now believed her stories about her parent, and understood why Trish had moved three states away from where she’d grown up.
3. Turning on her heel, Trish marched out of the room, but instead of going to the kitchen, she headed outside to let her husband know the conversation that had just occurred. She was almost out the door when she heard her mother yelling out to her, “Where am I supposed to hang my clothes? There’s not enough room in the closet for my clothes!”
4. Tomorrow, whether she wanted to or not, she’d have to take her mother with her to get the kind of groceries the woman deemed suitable. Otherwise, she’s going to tell people I’m either starving her or trying to poison her, Trish concluded, and proceeded to make two sandwiches instead of three without any qualms. She knew that sooner or later her mother would sneak back into the kitchen and find something to eat when no one was around to observe.
5. Things seemed to explode from there, but neither of them gave a damn. She was so hungry for his attention, for his affection, and for his love, she could care less whether or not her mother walked in on them. Chuck, however, did seem to mind. Dragging her into the office, he slammed the door behind them with his foot. At the same time, she shoved her chair out of the way, and they went down onto the carpet in a blistering haze of fumble and scratch.
6. Trish smiled again. Yeah, they were taunting the woman because they knew she’d take the bait and bite back. That was what they wanted—for her to rile them to the point where they’d feel compelled to excuse themselves and make a run for the back bedroom, and settle once and for all the question of whether or not she was responsible for resuscitating their love life.

Book Description:
Having left her life at Acorn Hills behind, Ember tries to pick up the pieces of her heart at home in Scotland. Reuniting with old friends, working a normal job, hiding her fangs...
But while fake smiles fill her days, nightmares plague her nights, re-opening the wounds she's tried so hard to heal.
Left behind in Acorn Hills, Reid spirals into a deep depression, becoming more and more self-destructive. Until Hiro takes pity on him and comes up with a solution to the hollowness left by Ember's absence: get her back.
With the way Ember left, Reid knows it won't be easy to win back his Firefly, but he will do it. He has to.
Otherwise, an eternity without her isn't something he could live with.
Excerpt
Reid was in
jail. Not the first time, probably not the last. He was there mostly by choice
anyway; if he’d wanted, he could have compelled the police officer who’d pulled
him over for drunk driving to let him go.
He’d been
driving recklessly on his motorbike, almost hoping for a crash; A few broken
bones, a splintered tree, pain that could be quantified and fixed with simple
medication, unlike the gaping wound where his heart used to be.
He’d thought
that being in a cell would distract him, give him something else to think about
other than the burning pain inside him, seeing as the drink hadn’t numbed it,
but he’d been wrong. Of course he’d been wrong. He couldn’t remember the last
time he’d been right, felt right.
Reid sighed,
staring at the dull, grey ceiling of his cell. But staring at the dirty stone
ceiling of his cell was no different than staring at the white ceiling of his
dorm room, except that here there was no chance of Ricky showing up to stare
mournfully at him through those pitying green-blue eyes of his.
And that was
another reason Reid had chosen to spend the night behind bars; He was avoiding
Ricky. Avoiding everyone actually, but Ricky especially. He’d been avoiding
Ricky all day, in fact. It was why he’d gone out to the bar, and spent hours in
the pool before that. Why? Because Ricky knew what day it was, and he’d likely
have something to say about his moping, maybe even have planned something for
it, and Reid just wasn’t in the mood.
It was the 9th
of May. This day last year had been awesome, the year before that even better
but this year…Reid just wanted to sink into a drunken oblivion and he couldn’t
even do that.
The fact that it
was his birthday didn’t excite him, it just depressed him further. His
eighteenth birthday. It was a big event for humans, almost even bigger for a
born vampire like himself. Born vampires stopped aging at eighteen.
After today,
Reid wouldn’t age another day, ever. He was stuck like this forever. He would
always have the face of an angel, carefully toned muscles, and hair like golden
silk that would never go grey. It wasn’t a bad way to look for the rest of
eternity…it just didn’t mean anything to him anymore.
His own
appearance didn’t matter when he still had images of her burned into his brain.
What makes your book special?
My book is special because it's the culmination of eight
years of work and love, and the end of the series that started my journey into
being an author.
It's full of emotion and magic, and characters that are so
much a part of me and some of my readers. It's a world where anything can
happen, where anyone can have power or love.
Acorn Hills is a place of pure magic, stuffed with wild and
interesting creatures.
Ember is the heroine I always wanted to be, Reid is the kind
of man who loves hard and forever. Sherry, Ricky, Hiro...friends that will
never let you down or judge you.
If I could choose one world, from all the 500 and something
books I've read, to fall into for real, I'd choose this one.
